Due to the nations struggling economic situation, the US Treasury Department has issued proposed regulations that require boards of directors of companies who have received funds from the Troubled Asset Relief Program (TARP) to establish regulation policies for all meetings, events, and incentive/recognition travel in addition to other requirements.
In the US alone, events and meetings are responsible for 15% of all travel, create over an estimated $200 billion in annual spending, generate nearly 2.4 million jobs and provide approximately $40 billion in tax revenue. It is now more important than ever for company leader to get together and meet to solve the problems at hand. “Keep America Meeting” is a group effort to educate the government on the importance of the events and travel industry during these tough times. Organizations such as the Convention Industry Council, Meeting Professionals International, and the International Special Events Society have stepped up in support of this great cause. Please show your support for the meetings and event industry and sign the petition.
